BMW 318is super touring car
The BMW 318is super touring car available from us is an original BMW Motorsport GmbH works car, built in 1993 and shipped to South Africa in 1994.
Only two vehicles were prepared by Motorsport GmbH to participate in the South African Touring Car Championship (Stannic Touring Car Championship) and used there by Team BMW South Africa Motorsport. Two German racing engineers were flown in especially for every race.
Both vehicles featured the colours of the main sponsor BP Envirocar and were used by local drivers Deon Joubert and Shaun van der Linde.
According to our research, it is the vehicle Shaun van der Linde drove during the 1994 season to claim overall victory in the South African Championship. In 1995, the car again took part in the championship in Killarney after Shaun van der Linde’s BMW 318is at that time had overturned several times in the previous race in Zwartkops.
The car is almost in its original condition from the championship in Killarney in 1995. Number 1 is written on the side doors with the logo of the race series sponsor Fleetcare, not Number 3 of the 1994 race series sponsor Stannic. For over 15 years, the car then remained in the possession of Shaun van der Linde before it came to Germany via England.
The vehicle is currently being tested extensively by our team and is looking forward to participating in more races with its new owner.
